On May 19, 2012, at about 3:27 p.m., Sheriff's Deputies responded to an accident involving a motorcycle that crashed on SW Laurelwood Road in the community of Laurelwood. It was reported the motorcycle crashed head-on with another vehicle and the rider was unconscious.
When deputies arrived they found a 2006 Victory motorcycle had been ridden by Troy Moody, 50 years old from Estacada. Mr. Moody failed to negotiate an uphill curve and laid the motorcycle down on SW Lauralwood Road. Mr. Moody and the motorcycle slid into the opposite lane into the path of an oncoming 2000 Dodge Durango driven by Terry Smith from Beaverton.
The Durango collided with both the motorcycle and Mr. Moody. Mr. Moody was pronounced deceased at the scene. It does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash. There was a 50-year-old female passenger in the Durango who was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
SW Laurelwood Road was closed for about two hours to complete the investigation. At this point no charges are expected.
