Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Sunday afternoon's critical injury single vehicle traffic crash on Highway 221 just north of the Yamhill / Polk County line near Wheatland. The highway is expected to be re-opened about 7:00 p.m.
According to OSP Sergeant Brad Hessel, on May 27, 2012 at approximately 2:55 p.m. a 2003 Ford F150 pickup driven by a 25-year old Dayton-area man was southbound on Highway 221 near milepost 10. As the pickup negotiated a curve, the driver lost control traveling off the highway and colliding head-on into a large tree.
Dayton Fire District firefighters spent about one hour extricating and treating the injured driver at the scene. The driver was then transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. His name is expected to be released Monday morning.
OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and ODOT are also assisting at the scene.
