WASHINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AWARDED TOP DUII AWARD
Posted: April 24th, 2012 5:33 PM
On April 20, 2012, the Washington County Sheriff's Office was selected by the Oregon DUII Multi-Disciplinary Training Task Force as the county agency-of-the-year for 2011 for DUII enforcement. This is the seventh time the Sheriff's Office has been selected for this award.
This award is presented to a Sheriff's Office which has initiated or accomplished an effective DUII project or program in their area of responsibility through enforcement, prevention or community involvement. The agency must have also provided encouragement to aggressively train and enforce DUII and drug-impaired driving laws and taken a pro-active approach to deter DUII.
Washington County Sheriff's Office has made DUII enforcement one of our top priorities. The Sheriff's Office continues to average over 1200 DUII arrests a year in recent years. The enforcement efforts are paying off. In 2006, there were 15 fatal crashes in Washington County which involved alcohol. In 2010, there were only three alcohol related fatal crashes in Washington County. Washington County saw an 80% decrease in alcohol related fatal crashes from 2006 to 2010. There is still much work to be done, especially with the increasing number of impaired drivers driving under the influence of drugs and prescription medication.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit has DUII enforcement deputies dedicated to stop alcohol and drug impaired drivers. The Sheriff's Office will continue to stay focused in stopping impaired driving to keep our roads safe.
If you have any information concerning an alcohol or impaired driver, please call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at (503) 846-2700 or 911 if it is an emergency.
