Two men were arrested Saturday afternoon during an Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic stop south of Sutherlin when they were found in possession of over one pound of heroin concealed in their vehicle. OSP Drug Enforcement Section detectives are continuing the investigation.

On April 14, 2012 at approximately 5:54 p.m. an OSP trooper stopped a 1997 Honda Accord traveling northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 133 for a traffic violation. The two occupants were identified as driver JOSE MANUEL HERNANDEZ-OROZCO, age 27, from Vancouver, Washington, and passenger GERARDO ELIZONDO-ARIAS, age 41, from Fairview, Oregon.

With the assistance of a Sutherlin police officer, the trooper found approximately 1.1 pounds of heroin and other evidence concealed in the car's trunk. Estimated value of the seized heroin is $11,000.

Both men were arrested and subsequently lodged in the Douglas County Jail.

HERNANDEZ-OROZCO arrested for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance --- Heroin.

ELIZONDO-ARIAS was arrested for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance --- Heroin, Furnishing False Information to a Police Officer, and Unlawful Possession of Fictitious Identification.
