Highway 224 has been closed since late Monday morning following a non-injury single vehicle collision into a power pole along Highway 224 east of Carver. PGE crews responded to repair downed power lines and the power pole which was hanging over the highway.
On April 23, 2012 at approximately 11:37 a.m. a 2004 Dodge pickup driven by MICHAEL J. CROUCH, age 66, from Eagle Creek, was westbound on Highway 224 near milepost 13. As CROUCH reached down to pick up something inside, the pickup traveled off onto the shoulder and collided with a power pole. The impact snapped the power pole causing lines to fall onto the highway.
Clackamas County Fire District 1 firefighters, Oregon State Police troopers, PGE crews and ODOT responded to the scene. CROUCH and his two passengers remained inside the pickup until PGE crews told them they could get out.
CROUCH was cited by OSP for Fail to Drive in a Lane.
ODOT and PGE were remaining at the scene until the highway could be re-opened and repairs done. Traffic updates are on ODOT's website www.TripCheck.com.
Questions regarding any power outages caused by this crash should be directed to PGE.
In the event that a wire comes down on a vehicle with passengers, officials recommend staying in the vehicle until professional help arrives to safely remove you from the vehicle. If you MUST get out of the vehicle because of fire or other life-threatening hazards, jump clear of the vehicle so that you do not touch any part of the vehicle and the ground at the same time. Jump as far as possible away from the vehicle with both feet landing on the ground at the same time.
