ODOT/Valley, No. Coast - MON 3:01pm

ODOT/Valley, No. Coast: OR 58 (Willamette Hwy.) remains closed four miles west of Oakridge. A commercial semi hauling 10,000 gallons of fuel in two tank trailers overturned earlier today, spilling more than 4,000 gallons of diesel and gasoline. An effort is underway to pump the remaining 5,800 gallons of gasoline from one of the two tank trailers.
During the pumping, residents of the West Ridge Subdivision will remain evacuated for safety. Their homes are within 1,000 feet of the crash site.
The highway will remain closed indefinitely. After the remaining fuel is pumped, the semi and trailers will be righted and removed from the side of the road.
Crews responding to the fuel spill will also remain in the area for some time.
ODOT will open the highway to a single lane of travel as soon as it is safe and practical to do so. Motorists should be prepared for a highway closure into this evening.
Many agencies are coordinating their response to this incident including Oakridge Fire Department, Eugene Fire Department and the Region 2 Hazardous Materials Response Team, the Lane County Sheriffs Department, Oregon State Police, the Department of Environmental Quality and ODOT.
