CLACKAMAS FIRE CREWS ATTEMPT TO RESCUE AN ELDERLY MAN FROM THE HOME HE HAS LIVED IN FOR NEARLY 70 YEARS.

At 5:01pm Sunday afternoon several calls came into 911 from neighbors stating that the home at 6418 SE Jennings Ave in Milwaukie was on fire. 911 dispatchers were also told that the elderly man that resides there was inside and neighbors were trying to rescue him. None of those efforts were successful.
Clackamas Fire crews arrived on scene minutes after the first call. They also initiated a rescue attempt but were unable to locate the man right away. The crews did eventually find him deceased. The fire was brought under control in less than 20 minutes. Clackamas Fire crews were assisted by Gladstone Fire Department.
Investigators will be on scene through the night taking photographs and digging through the rubble in an attempt to find the cause of this tragedy. More information will be released as soon as it is available.
Battalion Chief Brian Rooney stated, "These calls are always hard for firefighters but our thoughts are with the family and friends that lost someone special today". He also wants to remind everyone, "If you have a fire in your home, get outside quickly and call 911, never attempt to fight the fire yourself".
