FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 101 NORTH OF GARDINER

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Wednesday morning's fatal traffic crash on Highway 101 about three miles north of Gardiner that resulted in the death of an adult female. The victim's name will be released following next of kin notification.
Preliminary information indicates on February 29, 2012 at approximately 9:40 a.m. a sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by an adult female was northbound on Highway 101 near milepost 206 when it lost control and traveled into the path of a 2006 International truck pulling a box semi-trailer. The truck's driver was unable to avoid the out-of-control SUV and collided into its passenger side.
The SUV's driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was using safety restraints.
The truck's driver, CHRISTOPHER L. LANE, age 34, from Springfield, was using safety restraints and received a possible injury. He was transported by OSP to Lower Umpqua Hospital for a medical examination.
Road conditions were wet and hail recently fell in the area.
Traffic was restricted to one lane for several hours during the emergency response and investigation. ODOT was on scene assisting with traffic control.
OSP troopers from the Coos Bay and Roseburg offices are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Reedsport and Gardiner Fire Departments, Lower Umpqua Ambulance, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
