UPDATE: NAMES RELEASED - FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 101 NORTH OF COOS BAY (PHOTOS)

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday morning's fatal traffic crash on Highway 101 north of Coos Bay involving a pickup and a commercial truck. The crash resulted in the death of a 19-year old male driver and injuries to his father who was a passenger. Their names and city of residence are released in this update.
According to OSP Senior Trooper Fred Dunlap, on August 19, 2011 at approximately 1:47 a.m. a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by TYLER RANDALL HOFFMAN, age 19, from Reedsport, was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 228 when it lost control and crossed the centerline into the southbound lanes. A 1991 Freightliner truck pulling a loaded semi-trailer driven by BRANDON M. HENDERSON, age 33, from Coos Bay, was traveling in the right hand northbound lane and tried to avoid a collision but the pickup struck the truck's left side and front of the semi-trailer. After impact, both came to rest in the northbound shoulder ditch.
TYLER HOFFMAN was pronounced deceased at the scene. His 39-year old father/passenger, JASON R. HOFFMAN from North Bend, was transported by Bay Cities Ambulance to Bay Area Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both were using safety restraints and the passenger side airbag deployed.
HENDERSON was not injured. He was using safety restraints.
OSP troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the fatal crash. An OSP Colllision Reconstructionist from the Florence office responded to assist with the investigation.
Hauser Fire Department, ODOT and Coos County Medical Examiner's Office assisted at the scene. Highway 101 was closed at the scene in both directions and re-routed by ODOT flaggers for about 6 hours during the investigation and vehicle recovery by Mast Brothers Towing.
