Portland Parks & Recreation Continues Temporary Closure of Hillsdale Park:

Precautionary Soil Testing Underway

(Portland, OR) -
Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) announced that Hillsdale Park - SW 27th Ave & Hillsdale Hwy - will remain closed temporarily until further notice. As a safety precaution, the park was closed effective August 12th at 6pm and will remain so while PP&R investigates the possibility of unauthorized chemical use in the park. Laboratory soil testing is underway.

PP&R received reports of possible unauthorized pesticide use in this park. PP&R also received reports of dogs becoming sick after visiting the off-leash area at Hillsdale Park. Portland Parks & Recreation does NOT use pesticides intended to kill or remove animals. Bureau investigators are looking into whether unauthorized chemicals may have been introduced into the park.

Safety of people, pets, and wild animals is the foremost concern for Portland Parks & Recreation. The Bureau wants to ensure the necessary measures are being undertaken to investigate this situation.
As a precaution, as the investigation continues, PP&R asks the public to not use this park until an update is available.

As soon as PP&R staff can determine that the park is safe for use, it will be reopened.
