SERIOUS INJURY TRAFFIC CRASH - HIGHWAY 99S NORTH OF COTTAGE GROVE (PHOTOS)

A 21-year old man was seriously injured Monday afternoon when he lost control of his car and crashed into a large alder tree north of Cottage Grove. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Springfield Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
According to Trooper Ryan Hockema, on July 4, 2011 at approximately 2:20 p.m. a 1992 Honda Civic driven by MARCUS PEACOCK, age 21, from Cottage Grove, was southbound on Highway 99S near Abbott Lane when, for an unknown reason, it lost control and slid sideways off the highway into a large alder tree.
PEACOCK was seriously injured and transported by air ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. His 11-year old passenger received minor injuries and was transported to the same hospital by ground ambulance.
OSP troopers were assisted by South Lane County Fire and Rescue.
