OREGON CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONDUCT PEDESTRIAN SAFETY AWARENESS
Posted: June 15th, 2011 8:17 AM
The Oregon City Police Department will be conducting a Pedestrian Safety Operation on June 23rd, 2011. The operation will be held on Washington St near 12th St in Oregon City.
The primary focus of this operation is to raise pedestrian safety awareness. Through the use of a decoy pedestrian, the Oregon City Police Department hopes to raise awareness of drivers and pedestrians through education and enforcement of pedestrian right of way laws. The operation will be conducted between the hours of 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Warning signs will be posted prior to entering the pedestrian safety operation zone.
As a reminder, motorists must stop and yield to pedestrians who are waiting to cross, or are crossing the roadway. Motorists are required to stop at all crosswalks when there is a vehicle already stopped in a lane adjacent to the lane they are traveling in.
The members of your Oregon City Police Department are dedicated to enhancing the safety of both the citizens and guests of the city. Funding for the pedestrian safety operations is made possible through a grant from the Bicycle Transportation Alliance and Oregon Department of Transportation.
