Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a late Friday night's single vehicle crash on Highway 97 about 2 1/2 miles north of Chemult that resulted in serious injuries to two LaPine-area men. Troopers have not confirmed which of the two men was driving in this alcohol-involved crash.
According to OSP Senior Trooper Joseph Smith, on April 23, 2010 at approximately 11:45 p.m. a 2005 Dodge Durango was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 200 when it veered to the right off the highway into the ditch. The Durango rolled over, coming to rest on its right side facing north.
Two occupants tentatively identified as RICHARD ANTONE ALLINO, age 37, and MARCUS ANTHONY VALENTINE, age 27, both from LaPine, were seriously injured and climbed out of the vehicle. Both men tried to leave the scene walking north in the ditch. ALLINO only made it a few yards before collapsing. VALENTINE walked approximately one-half mile along the highway shoulder. As OSP was beginning to arrive in the area, VALENTINE tried to run away but collapsed. Both men were visibly intoxicated.
Chemult EMS and Air Link helicopter responded. Both men were transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with serious injuries.
OSP sergeants and troopers from Bend, Klamath Falls and Gilchrist offices all responded to the crash.
