Milwaukie Police Detectives have been investigating an ongoing financial exploitation of an 82-year-old Milwaukie resident, Homer D. Weber. The suspect, Kimberly D. Wright, was indicted on 19 felony counts in Clackamas County Circuit Court. The indictments included 5 counts of Aggravated Theft I, 10 counts of Identity Theft, and 4 counts of Theft I.
Between the dates of June 15, 2009 and January 11, 2010, 45-year-old Kimberly D. Wright (DOB 05-18-65) from 333 S. County Road, Wamic, Oregon (Tygh Valley) is alleged to have systematically withdrawn over $83,000 from the elderly victim's bank accounts.
Family members of 82-year-old victim were alerted something was amiss when Homer Weber told them a family friend had asked to borrow $130,000 to pay off her home mortgage. Homer's son and daughter-in-law started looking at Homer's bank accounts and discovered over a period of seven months, Kimberly D. Wright had allegedly withdrawn over $83,000 from Homer's finances.
On 02-19-10, Milwaukie Police performed a search warrant of Kim Wright's house in Wamic, Oregon. Evidence from that search warrant was included in reports forwarded to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office. The suspect was arrested on 02-24-10 and charged with an initial count of Aggravated Theft I, and an initial count of Identity Theft. Kimberly D. Wright was booked at the Clackamas County Jail.
Additional charges were pending, and recently the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office received authorization for the additional indictments.
Wright is not currently in custody, but is awaiting future court proceedings.
This is the second extreme case of elder abuse through financial exploitation recently investigated by the Milwaukie Police Department. On March 25, 2010, after an extensive criminal investigation that began in September 2009, Milwaukie Police detectives arrested Janet Gay Durkee (03-29-48) on felony charges of Aggravated Theft I, and Criminal Mistreatment I. Janet Durkee was arrested for allegedly systematically taking more than $224,000 over a five month period from her 85-year-old mother's bank accounts, leaving the elder destitute.
(Homer Weber is bedridden with medical issues at this time, but his son and daughter-in-law are willing to speak with media personnel. Media may contact Kelly Weber, or Daniel Weber at cell phone number 503-703-7770.)
If media wishes additional information on how to prevent incidents of elder abuse through financial exploitation, a two-page article is available through Officer Ulli Neitch, PIO, Milwaukie Police Department.
