NON-INJURY CRASH BLOCKED INTERSTATE 5 SOUTHBOUND NEAR COBURG SUNDAY MORNING
Posted: April 25th, 2010 12:43 PM

Interstate 5 southbound lanes north of Coburg were closed approximately 90 minutes Sunday morning following a single vehicle non-injury crash. A travel trailer tipped over blocking both lanes and a leaking propane tank had to be removed from the trailer by firefighters.

According to Oregon State Police Trooper Todd Custforth, on April 25, 2010 at approximately 8:00 a.m. a 2002 Ford Explorer pulling a 32-foot travel trailer was southbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 200. The Ford's driver, JEROME EVERETT THOMAS, age 51, residence not available, stated he was in the right southbound lane when a commercial truck passed him in the left lane. The draft from the passing truck caused THOMAS to lose control and his vehicles jackknife. The travel trailer tipped on its side across both southbound lanes. The Ford did not roll over.

THOMAS was not injured.

Coburg Fire Department personnel responded and removed a leaking propane tank from the front of the trailer.

ODOT was able to route traffic along the inside shoulder until the trailer was removed from the highway.

No photographs available for release.
