On Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) Search and Rescue, Marine Rescue and Dive Team personnel responded to a report of a missing fisherman in the Willamette River at the address of 11859 SW Riverwood Road, in Portland.

Deputies soon learned a fisherman identified as DALE EDWIN GARLAND, 57, of SE Portland, was reported missing to Milwaukie Police. These investigating Deputies discovered Dale Garland was reported to have departed his SE Portland residence prior to 5:00 a.m. this morning, parked his vehicle and boat trailer at the Milwaukie, Jefferson Street boat ramp and was motoring in the Willamette River with his dog.

Garland was later traced to a private residential boat dock located on the opposite side of the Willamette River, at the address of 11859 SW Riverwood Road, in Portland. Investigating Deputies were able to review security surveillance images and determined Garland arrived at this private boat dock around 5:00 a.m. in his boat, complete with fishing poles, food and his beloved dog.

Friends of Dale Garland reported locating Garland's boat moored at this dock for several hours -- occupied only by the dog -– Dale Garland was missing and not located in the immediate area. Garland is a diabetic and it is not known if his diabetic condition triggered an episode that may have placed Garland in jeopardy.

Family of Dale Garland have arrived with CCSO Search & Rescue personnel at the Command Post and are being comforted by Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) volunteers with the emotional family needs at the scene.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Dive Team members are presently in the water conducting an arching style search from where Garland's boat was located on SW Riverwood Road. In addition, members of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Clackamas County Sheriff's Cadets, Milwaukie Police, Lake Oswego Police and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office have been conducting a door-to-door ground search for the missing Dale Garland.

The Milwaukie Police Department has obtained a missing person report for Dale Garland as reported by his spouse. This Milwaukie Police Case Number is 10-1612

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol personnel are also searching along the banks of the Willamette River in hopes of locating Garland. Garland was equipped with the required personal flotation device in his boat; however, the surveillance images viewed by Deputies captured Garland not wearing a personal flotation while on the water prior to his reported disappearance.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office personnel will remain in the area conducting this continued search at least until darkness arrives later this evening.

Dale Edwin Garland, 57, is described as: a white male, 5'08', 210 pounds, with dark and gray colored hair – with a full beard.

The Sheriff's Office is requesting that if any member of the public has additional information concerning this missing fisherman, Dale Garland, to please contact the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office or the Milwaukie Police Department with this information.

All appropriate family notifications have been conducted with the Garland family, who are presently assisting Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Deputies with this ongoing search effort for Dale Garland.
