Location: 161 NE 82nd, the west side of Vestal Elementary School
Portland Parks & Recreation's 33rd community garden, Vestal Community Garden, is set to officially open Friday, March 12. The new community garden is a partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation, Portland Public Schools, and Friends of Community Gardens.
Vestal's project has turned a former parking lot in outer East Portland into a vibrant community garden and connects the culturally diverse Vestal Elementary School student body with residents of the Montavilla neighborhood. The garden will offer both shared garden plots for the community and an educational garden used by the school.
The new educational garden will give Vestal schoolchildren the chance to learn the fundamentals of organic gardening, nutrition, and food preparation, as well as the experience of growing, harvesting, and eating their own food.

The Community Garden program has provided gardening opportunities for the physical and social benefit of the people and neighborhoods of Portland since 1975. There are now 33 community gardens located throughout the city, developed and operated by volunteers and Portland Parks & Recreation staff, offering a variety of activities.
