MILWAUKIE HOUSE FIRE DISPLACES 5 PEOPLE (UPDATE)

News Release from Clackamas Fire Dist. #1
Posted on FlashAlert: August 3rd, 2014 10:41 AM
Five occupants of a Milwaukie home located at 8111 SE Thiessen Road all escaped physical harm when a fire erupted at 2:30 early Sunday morning. The single alarm fire was extinguished and called under control in twenty minutes, however, several of the eight fire apparatus that responded to the single story residence remained on scene for extensive salvage and overhaul operations. The fire quickly traveled from the back deck of the home, and extended into the attic creating challenges for fire crews. This precipitated roof operations to ventilate the structure by cutting a hole in the roof to allow heat and smoke to escape. Currently, the re is a single investigator on scene to determine the origin and a cost damage estimate. As soon as that information is available, updates will be made.

UPDATE:
Fire investigators confirm that the blaze began on the back deck, and originated from a BBQ used by the home owners for dinner the previous evening. The home did not have a working smoke alarm, and early estimates value damages at $50,000.
