Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Tuesday afternoon's single vehicle fatal traffic crash the resulted in the death of an elderly LaPine man along Highway 138E about twenty-eight miles east of Roseburg. The victim's name is released Wednesday in this update.

According to Lieutenant Doug Ladd, on March 12, 2013 at approximately 4:00 p.m., a 2003 Dodge Durango driven by BUDDY GLEN MIRES, age 74, from LaPine, was eastbound on Highway 138E near milepost 28 when it traveled across the centerline and off the north side of the highway. The Dodge struck a tree head-on and MIRES was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints and the vehicle's airbags deployed.

Preliminary investigation indicates MIRES may have had a medical problem that could have been a factor in the crash.

OSP troopers from the Roseburg Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper Ray Dube is the lead investigator.

Glide Rural Fire District and ODOT assisted OSP at the scene. The westbound lane was closed for about 2 hours while troopers were investigated and traffic was able to get through the area in both directions.
