Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Tuesday afternoon's single vehicle fatal traffic crash the resulted in the death of an elderly male along Highway 138E about twenty-eight miles east of Roseburg. The victim's name will be released Wednesday to allow next of kin additional time for notifications.
According to Lieutenant Doug Ladd, on March 12, 2013 at approximately 4:00 p.m., a 2003 Dodge Durango driven by a 74-year old man was eastbound on Highway 138E near milepost 28 when it traveled across the centerline and off the north side of the highway. The Dodge struck a tree head-on the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints and the vehicle's airbags deployed.
Preliminary investigation indicates the man may have had a medical problem that could have been a factor in the crash.
OSP troopers from the Roseburg Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper Ray Dube is the lead investigator.
Glide Rural Fire District and ODOT assisted OSP at the scene. The westbound lane was closed for about 2 hours while troopers were investigated and traffic was able to get through the area in both directions.
