UNDERAGE ALCOHOL STING RESULTS IN ONLY 3 VIOLATIONS FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES IN THE CITY OF SHERWOOD
Posted: March 8th, 2013 1:20 PM

On February 26th, 2013, The City of Sherwood Police Department in conjunction with OLCC conducted a minor decoy operation at several businesses in Sherwood. The operation was devised to address underage drinking.
The operation conducted checks with 15 businesses throughout the city. The minor decoy would approach the checkout counter with a six-pack of beer at the various Grocery and convenience stores in the City of Sherwood in an attempt to purchase the alcohol. Additionally, the minor made attempts to order alcoholic drinks at local restaurants and bars.
As a result of the sting operation, 12 local businesses followed protocol and denied the sale of alcohol to the minor. These businesses were; The Rainbow Market, The Sherwood Liquor Store, 7-11, McMenamins, 2 Kilt Brewery, Safeway, AJ's Sports Bar, Walgreen's, Manzanillo Mexican Restaurant, McKenzie's Pub, Clancy's and Chevron gas station.
There were 3 businesses that sold to the underage minor. The employees of these businesses were cited under the City of Sherwood municipal code 9.36.090 ( sale of liquor to a minor). They will be required to appear in the City of Sherwood municipal court for the violation.
The businesses found in violation were Albertson's, Shari's, and Shell gas station.
The City of Sherwood Police Department and OLCC are committed to reducing underage drinking. We will continue to regularly check businesses to ensure they are upholding their responsibilities and not selling alcohol to minors.
