Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Wednesday morning's serious injury traffic crash that occurred on the southbound shoulder of Interstate 5 in the Tualatin area. The preliminary investigation indicates alcohol is a contributing factor.

According to OSP Sergeant Walt Anderson, on January 19, 2011 at approximately 7:09 a.m. a 1992 Ford L9000 flatbed truck with mounted crane was stopped on the right southbound shoulder of Interstate 5 near Boones Ferry Road with operator NEAL DAVIS, age 54, from Estacada, seated inside. According to witnesses, a southbound 2000 Toyota two-door driven by LAUREN H. THOMAS, age 25, from Beaverton, drifted onto the right shoulder without braking and crashed into back of the stopped truck.

THOMAS was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Oregon Health Sciences University. She was using safety restraints and the car's airbags deployed. She was cited for DUII and Reckless Driving.

DAVIS was not injured.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and ODOT. The right southbound lane was closed about one hour during the emergency response and investigation.
