At approximately 9:10 PM Canby Fire was dispatched to an Automatic Fire Alarm with a water flow alarm at Wilson Construction 1190 NW 3rd. When crews arrived they found a large commercial building with audible alarms sounding. The building was not occupied at the time of the alarm. Crews made entry into the building to find it filled with smoke and the sprinkler system activated. Initial Incident Commander Captain Chip Bryant upgraded the call to a full commercial fire. Canby Firefighters extinguished the remaining fire and began the overhaul process. Additional assistance was sent from Tualatin Valley Fire, Clackamas Fire and Aurora Fire to assist with clean-up and water removal. The sprinkler system and quick actions of the fire crews saved millions of dollars of equipment. This is another success story of the value of fire sprinklers. Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Units from Canby, TVFR, Clackamas and Aurora managed the incident, which took nearly two hours to fully process. Canby Fire will be handling the fire investigation.
