(An error was made in the previous press release. The collision occurred on SR 228 not SR 226 as previoulsy reported.)
A Sweet Home man is in critical condition this afternoon following a two vehicle collision on SR 228 near Sweet Home. About 11:37 this morning, OSP Troopers from the Albany Area Command responded to a reported two vehicle collision on SR 228 near MP 19. According to Trooper Jeff Freitag, a 1999 Ford F-250 pick up being driven by Matthew Pearce, 25, of Salem, was eastbound on SR 228 at about 55 MPH when a1994 Toyota pick up being driven by Lonnie Mintun, 49, of Sweet Home pulled out of a driveway and directly into the path of the Ford.
Pearce tried to take evasive action but was unable to avoid Mintun's vehicle and struck it on the driver' side. Pearce was not injured in the collision but Mintun was taken by Reach Air Ambulance to River Bend Hospital in Springfield where he is listed in critical condition.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Sweet Home PD and Linn County SO. The investigation is continuing and no citations have been issued.
