Two Newport men in custody following narcotics investigation

TWO NEWPORT MEN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING NARCOTICS INVESTIGATION

On June 7th, 2010 the Lincoln Interagency Narcotics Team (LINT) made two arrests in the City of Newport.

LINT developed information that Ruben Mendoza Tellez, 22, of Newport, was preparing to make a delivery of methamphetamine to another in Newport. At about 5:10pm on the 7th, LINT and the Newport Police Department located the vehicle in the area of Hwy 101 and NW 19th Street. Newport Police conducted a stop of the vehicle and found Tellez inside. Officers searched the vehicle and located a quantity of methamphetamine packaged for sale. In the vehicle with Tellez at the time of the stop were his two small children ages 2 and 4. Lincoln County Department of Human Services was called to the scene to assist with the children.

Tellez was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine, Delivery of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine and two counts of Child Neglect 1. LINT was assisted at the scene by the Newport Police Department, a K9 unit from Polk County Sheriff's Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and the Lincoln County Department of Human Services.

Also on the 7th at about 8:56pm, LINT served a narcotics related search warrant on a residence at 147 SW Coast Street in Newport. A search of the residence yielded a quantity of methamphetamine and cocaine packaged for sale. 147 SW Coast Street sits directly across the street from the Nye Beach Montessori School.

Arrested at the residence was Julio Cesar Gaona Medina, 25, of Newport. Medina was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine, Delivery of Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of a School– Methamphetamine, Possession of Controlled Substance – Cocaine, Delivery of Controlled Substance within 1000' of a School – Cocaine and Maintaining a Place Where Controlled Substances are Kept or Used.
