SALEM POLICE INVESTIGATING USE OF FORCE INCIDENT DURING SERVICE OF SEARCH WARRANT
Posted: June 16th, 2010 1:17 PM

On June 16, 2010 at approximately 6:00 a.m. multiple search warrants were served in the Salem area as part of a multi-agency investigation. Oregon State Police (OSP) SWAT team members were serving one of the search warrants when upon entry troopers encountered a male subject who refused to comply with their commands and actively resisted their efforts to take him into custody.

A trooper tasered the male but he continued to physically resist efforts to take him into custody. While resisting, the 16-year old male became unconscious. An OSP SWAT medic immediately started emergency medical care with help from other SWAT troopers. Salem Fire Department paramedics responded and worked with OSP SWAT until the male was taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital. He is to be transferred to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland and is reported in critical condition.

The male was not a resident of that address. An adult male and adult female were also at the residence. The adult male was arrested without incident.

OSP has requested Salem Police Department, with the assistance of the Marion County District Attorney's Office, investigate the incident.

More information will be released later this afternoon.
