At 3:26 pm, firefighters responded to reports of a six-unit single-story complex on fire at 13270 SW Farmington Rd. in Beaverton. Multiple calls to 9-1-1 indicated that heavy smoke and flame could be seen coming out of the complex.

Firefighters from Station 67 arrived within three minutes and found one of the middle units to be fully involved. Access to the fire was challenging due to narrow walkways and tight fence lines. One team of Firefighters worked their way towards the involved unit while another worked their way behind the complex to protect nearby structures and keep the fire from spreading.

The involved unit had a single occupant at the time of the fire, but they were able to evacuate uninjured before crews arrived. Residents reported to fire crews that a dog was trapped inside one of the units; firefighters were able to gain access to the unit and safely get the dog out uninjured.

Crews brought the fire under control and a search of the units indicated that everyone escaped safely. The Red Cross responded and is assisting six adults and one child who were displaced by the fire. All six units are uninhabitable at this time -- four due to significant fire damage and the other two due to smoke damage.

A fire investigator is currently on scene working to determine the cause of the fire and a damage estimate. Beaverton Police assisted with traffic control and Farmington Rd. was closed until 5:00 p.m. Trimet provided a warming bus to keep residents warm as evening temperatures dropped.

When a fire sprinkler system is present, the likelihood of injuries and costly damage is dramatically reduced. More information about fire sprinkler systems can be found at: http://www.tvfr.com/index.aspx?nid=144
