'The Town that Still Believes'
Pacific Power helps Dayton, Wash., community celebrate old-fashioned holiday tradition with strong commitment to renewable energy
DAYTON, Wash. -- You won't find Black Friday hoopla at picturesque Dayton, Wash.'s annual Christmas Kickoff, Nov. 27.
Green Friday, maybe.
With historic buildings and small town enthusiasm, it's appropriate for Dayton's holiday theme to be "The Town that Still Believes." This year's holiday celebration will once again showcase Dayton's commitment to renewable energy. Pacific Power and its Blue Sky customers are "greening" Dayton's holiday lights in Flour Mill Park and on Main Street by supporting renewable energy equal to the total electricity used to power the holiday lights.
This year's greening supports 12 megawatt hours of western region wind energy, which has the same environmental benefit as planting 172 trees or not driving a car 15,763 miles (about 250 round trips from Dayton to Walla Walla).
The Christmas Kickoff also includes the lighting of Main Street, a live production of "The Wizard of Oz" at the Liberty Theater, pictures with Santa, hayrides, caroling, a lighted parade and a Christmas market at the state's oldest train depot in downtown Dayton.
Full schedule here.
The first night of the celebration culminates with the fabulous Friday Night Winter Fireworks Display, sponsored by Pacific Power.
"This is truly a special event and the 'polar' opposite of a crazy, box-store Black Friday," said Bill Clemens, Pacific Power's regional business manager. "People stroll through the businesses of historic Main Street, sharing refreshments and good cheer with one another. Pacific Power is happy to invest in the community and add to the festivities."
