Update - Names Release:

OSP Major Crimes Detectives have determined this case to be a homicide and the victim killed on Monday night has been identified as Timothy Scott WAY, age 55, of Beavercreek.

The suspect has been identified as Michael-Daniel Timothy STEPINA, age 37, of Albany. STEPINA has been booked into the Clackamas County Jail on a charge of Murder.

OSP is continuing this investigation and is being assisted by Clackamas County District Attorney's Office, Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon City Police Department, and Milwaukie Police Department.

Rest Area name correction:

The French Prairie Rest Area is previously known as Baldock Rest Area and has been reopened as of this morning.

A person of interest has been identified and is being interviewed by detectives.

OSP Major Crimes Detectives are working in conjunction with the Clackamas County District Attorney's' Office and the Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office.

Baldock Rest Area continues to remain closed and additional information will be released pending next of kin notification.

Previously Released:

On Monday October 12, 2015, at 8:26 p.m., OSP Troopers responded to the Interstate 5 south bound Baldock Rest Area to conduct a welfare check of man found injured.

Troopers and medical personnel arrived and located the male victim suffering from traumatic injuries. Medical personnel were unable to save the man and he died at the scene.

The Baldock Rest Area is currently closed on the southbound side while this investigation is being conducted and Media staging is on the North side of the Rest Area.

No further information is available at this time.
