News Release from Portland Fire & Rescue
Posted on FlashAlert: October 8th, 2015 5:34 AM
Firefighters were dispatched to a house fire (2215 SE 51st St.) at approx. 5 AM this morning. Initial reports were that someone had been burned by the fire. When crews arrived they found a small fire in the kitchen that was extinguished and an elderly female with burns to her face and upper chest. Crews quickly treated the patient and transported her to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. An investigator is on scene to determine cause and damage assessment. This press release will be updated as information becomes available.
The fire originated in the kitchen. Remember:
Cooking is the leading cause of home fires in the U.S.
-Keep dishtowels, paper towels, pot holders, and combustible items away from stove burners.
-When cooking, stay in the kitchen and keep an eye on the stove.
-Don't wear loose sleeves over hot stove burners - they can melt, ignite, or catch on handles of pots and pans
-If a cooking fire starts, smother it with a pot lid. Never throw water on a grease fire, and do NOT try to pick up the pan.
