LOCAL WRESTLING COACH, CHILD CARE WORKER ARRESTED FOR SEX ABUSE (PHOTO)

Gresham, Ore. - An ongoing investigation, which started nearly three weeks ago, identified six juvenile sexual abuse victims and led to yesterday's arrest of Gresham resident Wyatt Ross DeRemer. Because of his extensive work with local and international youth, detectives fear the list of potential victims may be lengthy.
DeRemer, 25, is a well-known youth wrestling coach in the Portland metro area and has worked with hundreds of children, primarily in Multnomah and Clackamas counties. He has also worked as a volunteer fire fighter in Boring, Ore.; as an assistant event coordinator for a local muscular dystrophy association; and as a youth ski and snowboard instructor for Shriners Hospital for Children, Portland, Ore.
Until the start of the investigation, DeRemer was employed as an in-home health care provider working with developmentally disabled children for Oregon's Department of Human Services. He was also employed as a children's life skills coach for Trillium Family Services in Portland, Ore.
A Gresham High School graduate himself, DeRemer worked as a paid assistant wrestling coach for the high school, last coaching there in spring 2015.
Primarily acting as an assistant coach or volunteer, DeRemer has also worked with the following organizations:
Boy Scouts of America
Eagles Club (as a cook)
Eastside Elite Mat Club (head coach)
USA Wrestling Association
Gresham Mat Club
Estacada Mat Club
Cobra Wrestling Mat Club
SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) after school wrestling program at the following Gresham area schools: Dexter McCarty Middle School, Clear Creek Middle School, and Gresham High School
The investigation into allegations of abuse started Sept. 10, when parents of a high school student reported DeRemer had inappropriate contact with their son. During an initial interview with DeRemer, he confessed to sexually abusing a total of six children between 2009 and 2012. The known victims are all boys who were between 10 and 13-years-old at the time of the abuse. Two of the victims are believed to have been abused overseas and it is unknown if DeRemer will face charges at the culmination of the other country's parallel investigation.
DeRemer, who reportedly lives in the basement of his mother's Gresham home and has two bachelor degrees from Portland State University related to working with youth, has never been arrested and is not believed to have had any prior contact with police.
None of the abuse appears to have happened on school grounds. Two children are believed to have been abused in DeRemer's car while he was driving them home. One abuse happened while on an overnight camping trip for a wrestling event, and another happened in his basement.
DeRemer turned himself into authorities last night and is being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center on seven counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. His bail has been set at 1.75 million dollars.
Due to the sensitive nature of this case and the potential for more victims, Gresham Police Department's Child Abuse Team asks that everyone respect the privacy of the victims and refrain from questioning them about their involvement. If anyone has had concerning contact with DeRemer or believes they have information pertinent to this ongoing investigation, they are asked to call Detective Aaron Turnage, at 503-823-0189.
