FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH ON HWY 82 NEAR LA GRANDE - UNION COUNTY

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into this morning's fatal crash on highway 82 near milepost 5, just North of La Grande in Union County.
Upon arriving on scene, emergency crews found two vehicles had collided head-on and were still in the roadway. The driver of a red in color 2005 Dodge Durango was pronounced deceased on scene.
Preliminary information indicates a Dodge Durango had been traveling westbound on Highway 82 when it crossed over the centerline for unknown reasons and struck an eastbound commercial motor vehicle nearly head-on.
The operator of commercial motor vehicle was not injured. Highway 82 was shut down for over four hours, with intermittent one lane openings. OSP is being assisted by the Union County Sheriff's Office, Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), Island City Fire Department and La Grande Fire Department.
The name of the deceased driver will be released when next of kin has been notified. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released when available.
