WILSONVILLE, OR -- On Oct. 5, 2015, the Wilsonville City Council confirmed the appointment of seven voting members of the new 12-member Tourism Promotion Committee and Councilor Charlotte Lehan as the Council liaison to the committee. Composed of representatives from the greater Wilsonville tourism and hospitality industry, the newly-constituted committee is charged with implementing the Wilsonville Tourism Development Strategy and eventually overseeing City-run tourism grant programs. The seven committee members appointed include:

* Jeff Brown, General Manager of the Holiday Inn Wilsonville and member of the Tourism Development Strategy Task Force;
* Darren Harmon, General Manager, Wilsonville Family Fun Center and member of Tourism Development Strategy Task Force;
* Al Levit, a retired resident who is a Bike Club Coordinator and serves as a Commissioner on the Wilsonville Planning Commission;
* Kathleen Mason, Community Relations Manager for the Aurora Colony Historical Society in Aurora;
* David Stead, General Manager of Langdon Farms Golf Club and member of the Tourism Development Strategy Task Force;
* Elaine Swyt, Principal of MediaPhysics and Chair of the Wilsonville Parks & Recreation Advisory Board;
* Margaret Usher, Group Sales and Tourism Manager for the World of Speed Museum.

To be housed in the City's Parks and Recreation Department with support from the City Manager's Office, the Tourism Promotion Committee also includes five non-voting advisory members comprised of representatives of Clackamas County Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Washington County Visitors Association and the Wilsonville Area Chamber of Commerce, along with Parks and Recreation staff and a City Councilor liaison.

City Manager Bryan Cosgrove presented to the City Council the "Voice of the People Award for Excellence in Mobility" awarded to the City in late September by the National Research Center of Boulder, Colorado. The NRC award resulted from the exceptionally high levels of satisfaction reported by residents in bi-annual community surveys with mobility in Wilsonville that ranks the community as one of the top-three participating jurisdictions in the United States. The NRC community survey, conducted in hundreds of cities across the county, found 2012 and 2014 that Wilsonville residents' satisfaction with City public services were significantly above national benchmark standards overall and specifically in the areas of paths and walking trails, ease of walking, travel by bicycle and travel by public transportation.

Wilsonville Community Sharing board member Michelle Ripple presented a request to City Council for grant funds to enable the food bank and social-service referral agency to develop increased capacity and community/business outreach. The Council requested that City staff work with Community Sharing to review and refine the grant request.

Wilsonville Area Chamber of Commerce president Eric Postma introduced to the Council the new chamber executive Kevin Ferrasci O'Malley.

At work session prior to the City Council meeting, the Council heard an update on the French Prairie 'Bike-Ped-Emergency' Bridge project.
