October 28, 2015--Sheriff's Deputies responded to an incident where a cab driver crashed into a store after a confrontation with a rider.
On October 28, 2015 at 1:58 a.m., Washington County Sheriff's Deputies were called to 18560 SW Tualatin Valley Highway in the community of Aloha concerning a man that crashed his taxi cab through the front of the Chevron Extra Mile store.
Sheriff's Deputies arrived and found a Broadway cab driver, age 49, from Aloha had driven his taxi cab completely inside the store, crashing into the back counter with significant force. He was not injured in the crash. The store received extensive damage.
Sheriff's Deputies were told the cab driver drove a fare from downtown Portland and stopped in front of the Chevron Extra Mile store. When the trip was completed, the rider offered the cab driver a small amount of cash and some marijuana instead of the full fare. The cab driver told the deputies the rider wanted him to drive to a different location and threatened to harm him if he didn't.
Moments after the rider threatened the cab driver, the rider jumped out of the cab as the cab driver was calling 911. During the confusion, the cab driver accidentally accelerated, launching the cab into the store front with no apparent attempt to brake.
A Beaverton Police K9 assisted Sheriff's Deputies search for the man who fled the cab and escaped the area. The man was not located. He was described as a Latino adult about 5'8" tall wearing a black jacket.
This case is still under investigation.
Sheriff's Deputies are asking the public to call 503-629-0111 if they have any information about this case.
