Vancouver, Wash. - On August 26, 2015 the Vancouver Police Department introduced K9 Tripp who has completed certification training in Patrol and Drug Detection. He is trained to search for suspects both inside buildings and outside by tracking, trailing, and wind scenting and is trained to locate the odor of drugs. Tripp has not been trained to detect the odor of Marijuana.

K9 Tripp is a 2 Year-old Belgian Malinois, his country of origin is Holland.

K9 Tripp is named in honor of Tennessee State Trooper Douglas W. Tripp was killed in the line of duty on May 19, 1991. K9 Tripp's handler, Vancouver Police Officer Roger Evans says "Trooper Tripp was assigned to the region where I lived as a child. He was a prominent figure in our community and was very well respected and liked. When I was a teenager, I got to know Trooper Tripp quite well during the years I worked at a local restaurant. During that time, Trooper Tripp became a very positive role model, mentor, and friend of mine. My relationship with Trooper Tripp had a huge impact on my decision to pursue a career in Law Enforcement., Trooper Douglas Tripp was shot and killed in the line of duty. In recognition of the selfless way that Trooper Tripp served his community and paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, K9 Tripp is named in honor and memory of Tennessee State Trooper Douglas W. Tripp".
