UPDATE 1: SHOOTING INVESTIGATION IN EAST VANCOUVER

On August 20, 2015 Vancouver Police responded to the report of a suspicious circumstance in the area of NE 164th Avenue/SE 1st Street involving a male armed with a handgun. Officers made contact with the male subject who fled on foot and was contacted again by officers at the corner of NE 155th Avenue/NE 2nd Street. The male refused police commands to drop his weapon and turned the gun on himself, resulting in his death.
During the incident, a Vancouver Police officer fired one round from their duty weapon.
Details related to the officer involved shooting or the circumstances surrounding the original call for service are part of the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Clark County Regional Major Crimes Team and no further information is available at this time.
The identity of the deceased is pending the report from the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office and their release of information.
The officer who fired their weapon during this incident is Corporal Holly Musser, 34. Corporal Musser was hired by the Vancouver Police Department in August 2005. She was promoted to Corporal in April 2015 and is assigned to Patrol.
Following standard department protocol, Corporal Musser is currently on paid administrative leave.

Witnesses report that the male had a gun in his waistband. Officers made contact with the male who took off on foot. Officers locate the male subject at the corner of NE 155th Avenue/NE 2nd Street. The male refuses to comply with commands from officers to put his gun down and he shoots himself, taking his life.
In the course of the incident there is also investigation as to whether a Vancouver Police Officer fired their weapon.
The investigation is being conducted by the Regional Major Crimes Team with the Clark County Sheriff's Office taking the lead.
The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin by the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office.
