Tour southern Oregon renewable energy hotspots
Seats are going fast for the 12th annual Pacific Power Blue Sky renewable energy project tour set for southern Oregon Oct. 3
MEDFORD, Ore. -- Pacific Power customers can see the many faces of renewable energy in action on Pacific Power's 12th annual Blue Sky Renewable Energy Project Tour, Saturday, Oct. 3 in the Medford area.
Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis at pacificpower.net/tour. Registrations must be completed by Sept. 18.
The annual showcase of renewable energy projects will take place in southern Oregon for the first time. The tour is a way for Pacific Power customers to see how their support of renewable power through the voluntary program has tangible, positive impacts. Blue Sky customers, more than 3,000 of them in Medford alone, choose to support renewable energy by adding a few dollars to their power bills every month. Blue Sky encourages renewable energy development and participants have helped make 65 new Oregon renewable installations, such as those seen on the tour, a reality.
"This is always a fun event," said Monte Mendenhall, regional business manager. "It is great to see a group of customers so enthusiastic about supporting and learning about renewable energy and we are thrilled to provide an opportunity to show your Blue Sky dollars working every day."
Limited to only 50 registrants, the guided tour starts at 9 a.m. at the Coyote Trails Nature Center, where participants will learn about solar technology and view the recently installed 11-kilowatt solar pavilion before departing for the Lone Pine Creek restoration site. Blue Sky Habitat customer funds have helped restore native fish habitat on this Bear Creek tributary. Restoration project managers will show the subtle ways you restore and enhance a stream to make it more amenable to salmon and steelhead.
The tour continues on to the Dry Creek landfill which turns regional trash into renewable gas, which is then used to make electricity. Experts from Rogue Disposal will answer your questions about how your everyday discards are transformed into electricity.
The registration cost ranges from $20 to $30 per person depending on customer status. Discounts for children are also available. Spots are going fast, so please contact projecttour@pacificpower.net or call 1-866-476-9378 ext. 23 for questions. You may also download the registration packet at pacificpower.net/tour. Registrations must be completed online or postmarked by Sept. 18.
