SHOOTING INVESTIGATION IN EAST VANCOUVER

Vancouver, Wash. - On August 20, 2015 at approximately 10:24 a.m., Vancouver Police responded to the report of a suspicious male in the area of NE 164th Avenue/SE 1st Street. Witnesses report that the male had a gun in his waistband. Officers made contact with the male who took off on foot. Officers locate the male subject at the corner of NE 155th Avenue/NE 2nd Street. The male refuses to comply with commands from officers to put his gun down and he shoots himself, taking his life.

In the course of the incident there is also investigation as to whether a Vancouver Police Officer fired their weapon.

The investigation is being conducted by the Regional Major Crimes Team with the Clark County Sheriff's Office taking the lead.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin by the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office.
