Hazard Hamlet, an interactive outdoor electrical safety diorama for children, will be presented by PGE to at two final events this summer. A few basic rules for safer summer play
Power poles, power lines and transformers bring electricity to our homes and businesses, but are potential hazards when playing outdoors. Here are some basic rules for playing it safe outdoors:

Never climb on or around power poles or power lines! If a kite or balloon gets tangled up in a power line or wrapped around a power pole, children should tell an adult, who should call PGE.

Don't touch a downed power line! If you see a power line that's fallen to the ground, don't touch it - don't even get close. Children should tell an adult, who should call PGE.

Electricity and water don't mix! Keep electrical gadgets away from pools, hoses, sprinklers and other sources of water.

Don't sit, climb or play around electrical transformers! Those green metal boxes on the ground, and those grey metal cans on poles, contain dangerous amounts of electrical energy, so stay away from them.

To report a power outage or an unsafe situation, call PGE in the Portland area at 503-464-7777. In Salem, call 503-399-7717.
