At 11:52 p.m last night, multiple callers reported to 9-1-1 that they heard an explosion. They came outside to find a duplex on the 19000 block of Teddi Rose Ct. near Beaverton with heavy flames coming from the garage.
Prior to firefighters' arrival, a Washington County Sherriff's deputy went to notify neighbors to evacuate their homes. Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue's Aloha station were the first to arrive on scene and found a garage door in the roadway and heavy flames expelling out of the garage and second story window. Due to the heavy flames, crews first worked to get the exterior flames under control and then transitioned to fight the fire inside of the duplex. Once inside, crews were met with heavy flames coming from the second floor and thus methodically worked their way up the stairs to suppress the fire.
As crews gained access to the second floor they discovered the remains of an adult male victim. The County Medical Examiner was called to the scene and is working with local law enforcement to identify the victim and notify next of kin.
Fire investigators remain on scene examining material evidence and burn patterns to determine the exact cause of the fire. There is no damage estimate at this time.
Three people who lived in the adjoining unit have been displaced from their home and are being assisted by the Red Cross. Approximately 25 firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue worked on the call and were assisted by Hillsboro's Engine 2 and Fire Chaplain.
