At 4:45 this morning Firefighters responded to a fully involved garage fire at 10167 SE 99th Dr.in Happy Valley. Upon arrival crews found the garage was fully involved and the fire had extended to the bedrooms above the attached garage. All of the occupants were out of the home so crews went to work knocking down the fire in the garage along with making entry into the home. The interior firefighters were able to contain the fire to the bedrooms and the fire was under control at 5:09.
Everyone got out of the home safely along with the families two dogs and a cat. Four cats are still unaccounted for and the Red Cross was on scene to help the family. The mother who was at home sleeping woke up when she heard the garage door open and she could smell smoke. She went and woke up her two teenage daughters and they exited the home immediately with the family pets that they could immediately find. They said they could hear the smoke alarms sounding as they were evacuating the home. There was a tent trailer smoldering in the garage and firefighters had to use a winch on the heavy rescue to remove it.
Remember to always have working smoke detectors in your home both outside and inside of all sleeping areas.
