Gresham, Ore A 28-year-old woman called 911 from a neighbor's home in the 19400 block of SE Yamhill St. at 5:17a.m. on May 24, reportedly having just escaped her home after being held captive there overnight by a man and a woman. The victim told dispatchers her toddler was still inside the two-story apartment with the two suspects.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld at this time, had been handcuffed by the suspects, threatened, and assaulted. She reported being able to escape the home when her attackers fell asleep after smoking marijuana.

The police investigation has determined the victim knew the two suspects prior to the attack, having met them in a Portland area homeless shelter. She met the man, David Vasquez, 33, and his girlfriend, Ruth Orozco-Rivera, 28, after being befriended by Vasquez. The victim became involved with Vasquez and he moved into her home, promising to help keep her safe. The victim did not know Vasquez was also romantically involved with Orozco-Rivera, a mother of four.

Vasquez had been living with the victim until recently, when Orozco-Rivera started showing up more often with her children. The victim started to find that her belongings were disappearing. Around 11:00 p.m. yesterday, the victim kicked the two suspects out of her home.

A short time later, Vasquez forced his way back into the home and he and Orozco-Rivera assaulted the victim. Orozco-Rivera brought one of her children into the home and left three in her vehicle in the parking lot. All the children are under 8-years-old. Following the investigation, the children were placed in protective custody.

Vasquez and Orozco-Rivera were arrested and lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center on myriad of charges, including: Kidnapping, Coercion, Assault, Burglary, Robbery, Menacing, Criminal Mistreatment, and Reckless Endangerment.

There are no outstanding suspects and no further information is available at this time.
