The Linn County Major Crimes Team led by investigators from the Oregon State Police, is continuing the investigation into last night's non-injury, officer involved shooting in Lebanon.

According to Oregon State Police Detective Sergeant Gregg Withers, the man who confronted deputies with the firearm has been identified as JAMES LINDSEY, 68, of Lebanon. LINDSEY was arrested and lodged at the Linn County Jail on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Assault 4, Menacing and Pointing a Firearm at Another Person.

Deputies had been summoned to the scene to provide assistance to an ambulance that was staged and awaiting law enforcement to check the residence for safety. Upon the first deputies arrival he was confronted by LINDSEY who was armed with a rifle. At some point during the incident the deputy fired at LINDSEY who was not struck.

Investigators learned LINDSEY had been involved in a domestic violence incident which occurred earlier and resulted in the Assault 4 charge. The name of the victim in that case is being withheld as an active investigation.

The name of the involved deputy will be released once investigators have taken his statement.

The Linn County Major Crimes Team is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in Lebanon earlier this evening. The Oregon State Police is leading the investigation and working in cooperation with the Linn County District Attorney.

Preliminary information from investigators at the scene indicates that sometime around 6:00 p.m., law enforcement personnel from the Linn County Sheriff's Office and later the Lebanon Police Department, responded to a residence at 3000 Stoltz Hill Road, in Lebanon, to conduct a welfare check on a person who was reportedly suffering from a medical issue. Shortly after arrival, one of the officers was confronted by an adult male carrying a firearm. The officer fired his weapon at the subject but did not hit him.

No one was injured during the shooting and the subject was taken into custody without further incident.

No photographs are available for release at this time. As an ongoing investigation the names of the involved officers and the man who was taken into custody are being withheld at this time.
