On April 2, 2015, at approximately 4:44 PM, an Oregon State Police (OSP) detective in an unmarked patrol vehicle and wearing plainclothes, located a possible DUII driver westbound on Foster Rd. The detective requested assistance from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) to get the vehicle stopped. As the detective continued to follow the vehicles driving became more erratic, forcing the detective to initiate a traffic stop prior to PPB arrival.

Upon activating his emergency lights, the vehicle did a U-turn and began to travel east on Foster Rd., hitting another vehicle. The detective turned to follow and attempted to keep it in sight as the vehicle sped away from him.

The detective caught up to the vehicle after it crashed into a storefront at Foster and 58th Avenue in Portland. The suspect fled on foot and the detective followed about 30 seconds later. The detective took to suspect to the ground and was shortly thereafter assisted by PPB in taking him into custody. The suspect was transported to OHSU with minor injuries. The subjects identity is still unknown but officers are working to identify him at this time.

OSP was assisted by the Portland Police Bureau. Alcohol is being investigated as a factor in this incident and additional charges for possession of marijuana, attempt to elude police, and DUII are pending.
