*** Update ***
Oregon State Police (OSP) are continuing the investigation into yesterday afternoons double fatal crash on Highway 138 east of Roseburg near Steamboat Creek.
According to OSP Sergeant Matt Bowersox, at approximately 1:00 p.m. today (4/12/15), a 36-year-old male from Bend, who was rafting the North Umpqua River near Steamboat Creek discovered a white Honda Accord that had driven off the roadway and crashed into a group of trees near the river. The rafter pulled to shore and checked the vehicle and it's passengers.
The driver, identified as CHRISTOPHER L. BRADY, 25, of Roseburg and his front passenger, CANDICE M. NIXON, 34, of Roseburg were deceased inside the vehicle. The adult rear passenger, name withheld to allow for family contact, survived the crash but was seriously injured and pinned inside the vehicle. The fourth passenger, a three-year-old male child of BRADY, was also in the vehicle. After assisting the surviving passengers and removing the three-year-old, the rafter went up to the highway and summoned help.
The adult passenger was transported by air ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital at River Bend in Springfield with serious injuries. The juvenile was transported by ground ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg and is expected to be discharged tonight with minor injury.
While the exact time of the crash is yet to be determined, troopers believe it may have occurred some time last evening or night (4/11/15) when the group was returning from a fishing trip. The cause of the crash is still under investigation and safety restraint use is still being determined.
OSP was assisted at the scene by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Douglas County Fire District #2, Glide Rural Fire Department and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Law Enforcement.
No photographs are available for release.
