PLEASE NOTE: An earlier news release on this topic contained an error. Only one of the events below is limited to childcare providers; most are for parents and/or families with their children. See details for each event. We apologize for any confusion.
BEAVERTON, Ore. - The Beaverton City Library will host six free workshops for parents of young children and childcare providers during its annual Every Child Ready to Read series April 6-May 1 at its Fifth Street location (12375 SW Fifth Street). Parents with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers will play together while learning skills needed before children are ready to learn to read. This year, the library hopes to make every day a reading day for young learners by providing fun and interactive lessons led by early literacy experts. Workshop themes include math and science, alphabet exploration, vocabulary building, picture book reading, sensory play, and more.
Events are targeted to different audiences, including parents with children and childcare providers. Registration is required for all events and patrons may register by calling 503-350-3600 or visiting www.BeavertonLibrary.org/register. Participants will also receive one free book so that they can practice their new skills at home. These programs are made possible in part by Ready to Read Grant funding provided by the State of Oregon.
"We are absolutely thrilled to receive Ready to Read funds," says Library Director, Abigail Elder. "We at Beaverton City Library truly believe that the earlier we can get children to enjoy reading books, the more opportunities they will have for success in the future!"
