City Awards Grants for Local Events and Programs

CITY AWARDS GRANTS FOR LOCAL EVENTS AND PROGRAMS

WILSONVILLE, OR -- The City of Wilsonville's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recently awarded grants to promote tourism and to support community programs with funding from the City's Tourism Grant and Opportunity Grant programs. In all, 10 different local nonprofit organizations were awarded $39, 995 in grants.

The following Tourism Grant awards, totaling $24,995, were approved by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at the March 12 meeting:

* Wilsonville Celebration Days for the Fun in the Park festival: $9,165
* Wilsonville Arts & Culture Council for the Wilsonville Festival of Arts: $5,665
* Wilsonville Rotary Club for the Summer Concert Series: $5,000
* Wilsonville Kiwanis Club for the Kids Fun Run: $5,165

The Tourism Grant program is funded by City hotel/motel tax revenues to support events that promote tourism and community activities that draw visitors, which helps to support local businesses.

On April 9, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved the following Opportunity Grants:

* Colton Holly Memorial Scholarship Fund: $1,100
* Jr. Scoop (a Wood Middle School service club): $1,800
* Korean War Memorial Foundation of Oregon: $2,800
* Wilsonville Community Sharing: $2,300
* Wilsonville Farmers Market: $2,800
* Wilsonville Sister City Association: $4,200

The Opportunity Grant program is funded by the City's general fund to assist local individuals and organizations that further educational or artistic opportunities; encourage and foster diversity; foster advances in education, art or community leadership; or involve youth or elderly population in community activities. A total of $25,000 is made available each year, with two deadlines in October and March for $10,000 each and $5,000 as discretionary funds for smaller, time-sensitive applications.
