March 2, 2015--Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Cornelius Library concerning a man acting strangely. The man was arrested and lodged in jail.

On March 2, 2015, at about 11:00 a.m., Washington County Sheriff's Deputies, serving the city of Cornelius, were contacted by the city library who reported that a man earlier was at a table inside the library acting strangely. They said the man came in alone and appeared to be fondling his genitalia while sitting across a table from two unsuspecting young children. They presented video footage to the deputies that corroborated their suspicions.

The Sheriff's Deputies searched the area for the man who reportedly fled the library shortly after the incident. They were unable to locate the man but did obtain information concerning his identity. He was suspected to be a registered sex offender. The librarians were advised to call the Cornelius Police Department if the man returned.

At 4:10 p.m., Sheriff's Deputies were called back to the library because the man returned and was sitting at a table. Sheriff's Deputies quickly responded and located David Duane Johnson, 46, from Cornelius. Mr. Johnson was confirmed as the man in the previous video and the registered sex offender. The investigation revealed that Mr. Johnson was fondling himself in the library in the previous incident.

David Johnson was arrested and lodged in the Washington County Jail. He was charged with Public Indecency and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, held on $10,000 bail. He was in violation of his registration for failing to update his residence information showing he now lives in Oregon.
