WILSONVILLE, OR -- During the Monday, March 2, 2015, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council adopted a new branding strategy that includes a new logo, tagline and positioning statement. A further element of the City's branding strategy, yet to be approved, is a narrative statement that the City is refining prior to Council's consideration for adoption.

At the meeting the City Council also approved a number of resolutions authorizing the City to acquire a 3.49-acre riverfront parcel adjacent to the City's Boones Ferry Park in the Old Town neighborhood of Wilsonville. The sale price and appraised value of the parcel is $1.1 million plus a contingent $25,000 contribution toward the site clean-up if completed by the seller as agreed. Funding for the property acquisition comes in part from Metro's Local Share greenspaces-preservation program ($280,000), City General Fund ($300,000), City Parks System Development Charge Fund ($270,000) and Urban Renewal Agency project income ($275,000). To facilitate the purchase and use of funds, the City Council also approved a new project list for the Metro Local Share program identifying the property acquisition as the City's final project for the program and a supplemental budget adjustment.

Formerly the location of a mobile-home park, the site is currently occupied only by the property owners. Acquisition of this riverfront land provides for a potential future expansion of the adjacent Boones Ferry Park and additional public access to the Willamette River, which was identified in the 2014 Tourism Development Strategy as an important priority. The property acquisition is expected to close by the end of April.

Other items approved by City Council include a resolution in support of creating a Willamette Falls National Heritage area.

Under Communications, the City Council heard a report from student members of Wood Middle School's Jr. Scoop club, who make and sell premium ice cream and host an annual clothing sale to benefit students at their school and other charitable causes.

On the Consent Agenda, the City Council authorized the City to enter into a new contract to purchase and install two new play structures for Murase Plaza in Memorial Park. The equipment to be installed is the same as the equipment previously approved by City Council in December, but a new contractor for the project is needed in order to meet the City's insurance requirements.

During worksession prior to the meeting, the Council received an update from Metro Councilor Craig Dirksen on the status of the Urban Growth Boundary process and highlights of the solid waste program and zoo enhancements. The Council also received an update from staff on the Kinsman Road extension project that is scheduled to begin spring of 2016.
