RECKLESS DRIVER PURSUIT IN EUGENE ENDS WHEN DRIVER RAMS OTHER VEHICLES - LANE COUNTY (PHOTO)

On Tuesday, February 24, Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers were dispatched to assist the Lane County Sheriff's Office with a reported assault in the Pleasant Hill area shortly before 8:30 a.m. As troopers responded they began to receive reports of a vehicle associated with the assault being operated in a reckless and unsafe manner on highway 58. A short time later, troopers passed by the vehicle and attempted to stop it.
The involved vehicle, a white, 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup, driven by RYAN A. SPOONER, 22, of Pleasant Hill, fled from troopers and a short pursuit ensued. While troopers held back from the fleeing vehicle it struck two vehicles on I-5 disabling them. The Tacoma took the 30th Avenue exit in Eugene and as troopers attempted to stop the Tacoma intentionally rammed a passenger vehicle and a large box van which caused it to become disabled in the roadway. The driver was taken into custody without further incident and was lodged at the Lane County Jail on multiple charges including:
Attempt to Elude Police - Felony
Felony Hit and Run by a vehicle
Reckless Driving
Recklessly Endangering another Person
Disorderly Conduct
Assault 4
Menacing
One of the drivers of a vehicle hit on I-5 was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, otherwise no other injuries were reported. OSP was assisted by the Lane County Sheriff's Office, Oregon Department of Transportation and Goshen Fire Department.
